Benefits of Massage Therapy
At Stamford Spine we offer massage therapy in addition to our chiropractic services. Many people think of massage as a luxury, but there are numerous health benefits of massage therapy. Not only can massage be a great way to relieve stress and tension, but studies show that massage therapy is an effective way to reduce pain, improve circulation, increase range of motion, and alleviate stiffness and tightness.
Massage therapy at Stamford Spine is function-driven. Our massage therapist works hand in hand with our doctors to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Our patients are treated with a more focused-approach. When we can combine chiropractic care with the benefits of massage therapy, we see better outcomes.
Below is a brief example of a treatment plan that included both chiropractic treatment and massage. Patient A came in with shoulder pain from playing volleyball on her high school team. After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Murphy diagnosed her with an acute rotator cuff strain. Over the next two weeks Patient A had four treatments, including two massage therapy treatments that were focused on improving quality of motion of the shoulder joint, relieving tension in rotator cuff muscles, and releasing myofascial trigger points in surrounding musculature. After two weeks the patient’s pain severity had decreased by 90% and her range of motion was restored to normal. She was cleared to return to play.
At Stamford Spine we offer both 30-minute and 60-minute massages. Our massage therapist, Lisa Parks, has been practicing massage therapy for over 25 years. She has extensive experience treating both chronic and acute conditions. Contact our office today to learn more about our massage therapy services.
